we're all steve jobs now
most devs want out.
because they’re very polarized / concerned / antagonistic towards ai, they are looking for arguments to “retvrn” to monke.
they don’t want to be the meat proxy, they don’t want cuckcoding, they don’t want ai fatigue, they don’t want to be “babysitting the chaos magic machine” (zangster), so they’re trying to find a niche, with the salary “as it was”, and nothing ever changes and everything is good forever.
in a previous post, i invited people to focus on the typing part of programming.
but i think you guys got the wrong message.
what i say was “find your pleasure”, not “mind your business”.
you’re in it. and even worse: you’re steve jobs.
“but no it’s the other way around, everybody’s a con artist now, no one is steve, in fact we still miss him…” shut up.
you’re steve and you don’t get to choose.
rewatch the old keynotes: he would constantly shit on the competition. in a way nobody did.
it was not a polite pecker contest with benchmarks like we have today, it was rage.
he hated the competition with passion, with precision, with fuel. he felt personnally offended by the state of things. because they started the fight, after all!
he, the humble calligraphy enjoyer, took the ugliness of the world to heart. and he went on to defeat it.
apple wasn’t about “let’s do our own little thing”. more about “let’s wipe the planet clean of these motherfuckers”.
this apple is the apple of discord.
and there’s a lot of loathe vitamins in there to survive the ai winter.
because programming is not what you enjoy but what you are.
this spirit is what you need. like many people, i think ai is both disgusting and inevitable. a pixel artist: “it’s flawed but good enough, and it’s pricing me out”.
steve was not a good engineer, nor a good developer. and he still went on a crusade. because he had a massive fucking ego. that ego allowed him to assemble a team. that’s how it is. human nature.
let me phrase this another way: if you’re depressed and lonely you’re fucked.
coincidentally, that’s how everything is designed to make you feel these days! how fucking amazing.
so, cheer up, phone a friend, and figure out how to unfuck this mess. because it is very much your problem.
don’t look away, we’re all steve now.
we’re all david, too.
